After testing this TaylorMade 2021 P790 irons, I concluded that it’s one of the best players distance irons sets to invest on. The 2021 TaylorMade iron has a slight more forgiving ability, and ball launch distance than the game-improvement irons like P770 Irons.

This iron is renowned for it’s premium feel forged topline and thinner wall construction, and low-profile speed specifically designed for golfers looking to improve their overall experience. It’s geared towards players with high swing speed who need added accuracy and shaping on shot. Generally, it’s a players-distance iron Specifically designed for advanced players looking for extra distance. If you’re a mid-handicap player, I’ll rather advice you to go consider the game-improvement iron like the Taylormade 2023 P770 irons.

Read this detailed comparison for more information between the players-distance iron vs game-improvement iron.

2021 TaylorMade P790 Technology

  • Thru-slot speed pocket: This improves ball speed, gives forgiveness on thinned shots. This is similar technology in both the P770 and P790 irons.
  • Speed foam Air: Just like the P770, the speed foam technology is also available in the P790 for same purpose(improves speed, sound feel and feedback).

Bonus Read: Read our unbiased head-to-head comparison, difference and similarities between this taylormade P790 vs Taylormade P770 iron specs.
  • Thin-wall Construction and Forged L-shaped Face: This flexible better face technology adds more energy to be transferred into the golf ball for added striking straightness.
  • Intelligent Sweet Pot: Built on intelligent technology ‘sweet post’ – a larger sweet spot for easier striking and straight shot target.
  • Tungsten Mass: Built on a technology that lows the catridge to improve stability and Moi(movement of inertia) of the golf club. This helps prevent the club from twisting on mis-hits region.

What I Love About This Iron (Pros)

Distance

The 2021 Taylormade P790 iron is known for distance. It’s however a top pick players distance iron. With my 6,9 P790 iron, I was able to consistently hit my irons 15-20 yards further than with my previous set. This is today, if other irons of game-improvement category could hit a distance of 180yards, the P790 being a top players distance iron would give 200 yards.

Feel

The P790 irons have a great feel. The forged face provides a solid and responsive feel, while the hollow body helps to dampen vibrations for a more comfortable experience.

Workability

The P790 irons are still workable, even though they are a hybrid design. I was able to shape my shots with ease, both from the tee and from the fairway.

Shaft Feel

The stock KBS Max MT shafts in the P790 irons are excellent. They provide a smooth and consistent feel throughout the swing.

Grip Feel

The Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 grips in the P790 irons are also excellent. They provide a comfortable and secure grip, even in wet conditions.

Aesthetic Appeal

The P790 irons are some of the best-looking irons on the market. They have a clean and classic design that will appeal to golfers of all ages.

Issues I've Encountered (Cons)

Spin

The P790 irons don’t spin as much as some other irons on the market. This can be a problem for golfers who play in wet conditions or who struggle with control.

Why I chose this Iron and why you should?

This club boast of its sleek design, feel and overall exquisite sound. The distance extra roll I experienced testing and fitting this club is worth giving in to. It has a custom grips and shafts installed as well. The massive amount of stability I felt through the swing practices was balancing and satisfactorily enough. Additionally, it features a turf interaction with the smaller head size design which makes it very easy and smooth to hit with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Don’t forget, the higher your handicap range, the worse the golfer you are, and vice versa. This is to say that a high handicap golfer is not a better golfer, and as such, since these P790s aren’t meant for the beginner golfer(high handicapper), the mid-to-low-handicap player range would benefit from these player types with their moderate level of forgiveness, larger sweet spot, and sleek profile. The club is a player distance iron.

The P790s just like the P770 are surprisingly easy to hit.

The price range for the Taylormade 2023 P790 Irons may vary depending on the bidding of different retailer. I’ll suggest you check the price via Amazon.
